it's like turning pages..

i have an amazon wishlist (hint, hint).
its pretty much all books.. actually it IS all books.
when the list gets too big or i just get too anxious that i can't wait... i make an order and get some books!! -sometimes im impulsive.
i ordered on sunday and they came by wednesday, nicely packaged and free of shipping costs :)
The Catcher in the Rye: its one of those books people were forced to read in school yet i've never read it. i've been wanting to get it for two years now and every time im in a used bookstore i forget to look for it.
JailBird: I've heard good and bad things about kurt vonnegut's writing.. i'd like to choose what side i am on in this debate. One of the most deciding factors in ordering this book was sam who has an absolutely beautiful blog ashore. she so often mentions books or quotes and the meanings she pulls from these words  just makes me want to read anything and everything.
Love Letters of Great Men: sex and the city? yes, this book was discussed in sex and the city before the book even existed. i've been looking for it for the past few months and im pretty sure every chapters/coles/indigo within 200km of my house was sold out of it (its not even new!).
Before I go to Sleep: i read the back, it seemed like something I would like.
The Art of Seduction: this book is not actually for me, its for terry. he's read another book by the same author and liked it so this is the next one. *i opened it to read the first page and it looks pretty intense.. maybe not my type of novel.
Falling Together: i've read marisa de los santos' other book love walked in and i really loved it, something i was surprised about. i'll see if this one is just as good!
that was my excitement for the week.
it is supposed to be a beautiful long weekend! even though i will be stuck in the mall working all weekend, many others can enjoy it!

you never get me.. thats the whole point

i started reading looking for alaska by john green a few days ago. its an easy read i got it from the teen novel section at indigo but i had heard it was good. it was on the top 20 books to read summer 2011 list from goodreads. i was just reading and i found a paragraph i actually love and it actually answers some of my life lol. one of the characters in the book, miles halter really likes this girl named alaska and when he visits her room once he notices the bookshelf full of novels. at one point he asks her "have you really read all those books in your room".. and her response..
the reason i love her answer so much is because its true.
there is so much in life to do that i cant just read and i absolutely loves that she includes something as seemingly insignificant as "swings to swing on" in her reasoning..
i collect books, i love books. reading takes me to places i cant go, teaches life lessons about different people and characters. books educate, create imagination and curiosity, inspire and bring about emotion.
i buy so many books and read them at 1/5 the rate i buy them. im almost 24, i have work and school to worry about. i have friends to be there for.
when im old (and boring as alaska puts it) i will have more time. if i have saved money from working hard throughout my young adulthood, and good health from taking care of myself, and a self-sufficient and appropriately independent family from raising them properly.. i will have all the time in the world to sit down with a good book! and as much as i dont want to be old now, sometimes i can't wait.
but currently im liking being almost 24.

i thought this was cute

such ambition never fails to amaze me..

"I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want. I can never train myself in all the skills I want. And why do I want? I want to live and feel all the shades, tones and variations of mental and physical experience possible in life. And I am horribly limited." - Sylvia Plath

I really like this quote.
Sylvia Plath is the author of The Bell Jar which is a book i just finished reading about a young girl, a girl prime of her life and interning for a fashion magazine in new york, who begins to experience a mental breakdown (and sever depression). the book is actually a semi biographical description of the authors life.  my description of the book is really besides the point (you should just read it).. really i just appreciate her quote.
read it.. doesn't it make you think?.. you really can't do everything you want in life so i guess we are best doing what we want when we want it because our feelings of wanting something will never cease to exist. if you want something now in life and you are convinced you have never wanted anything so bad in your life.. you have two options: get it.. or dont get it.. my suggestion is get it because at that point it will make you happy.. yes its true that in 5 days from that day you may not want it anymore but you will never know. maybe you will still want it maybe you wont. and why do we want? why do i want ice cream when i know it makes my stomach hurt, why do i want to keep buying new books when i have a bunch i haven't read. honestly i always buy multiple books at a time and am equally excited to read all of them, but then while im reading one, i buy more books and suddenly im so excited to read these new ones and no longer interested in reading the ones i bought before.
i dont know, this quote just makes me think..
i have this friend and he always makes me think about things like life.. not in a depressing way but in a questioning way.. there are so many questions to ask about life and i sometimes like that it is up to us to find answers.. they dont come easy. as sylvia plath said, 'we are so limited'.  i think we live to experience. to experience emotion, physical and intellectual stimulation, but each person  has different limits or restrictions and these limitations are sometimes based on geographical location or even physical build. certain individuals cannot experience a snowflake falling on their tongue simply because they do not live in such climates and do not have the financial means to go to such climates. this is only one example of how limited we are to experience everything life here has the potential to offer.
yup just some thoughts id put to paper (or computer)..

like a book elegantly bound..

i know this is random and kind of lame of me since i dont currently have a boyfriend but have you ever imagined the perfect proposal. as a girl, and most young girls do it, i've imagined my dream wedding dress and the fact that i want a tiara not a veil and i know the month i want to get married in. and yes i imagined a proposal that would be romantic yet simple. okay so im not going to be entirely lame and fully outline my dream proposal place and stuff but i will say that it was almost described in the book im currently reading. again this is random but something that is on my mind now. two reasons proposals are on my mind right now.. one is that im reading something borrowed;  two is i spent the day watching shows like brides of beverly hills and rich bride poor bride, shows i very rarely watch.
something borrowed, maybe you've seen the movie (its my new fav movie) is an even better book..  no surprise there i have yet to watch a movie that is better than its book. the book is based in new york city and for that i love it. descriptions of the street of manhattan makes me instantly jealous..i only wish i could afford to live there..but anyways read the book! although the story line is sad considering its about a girl (rachel) that is in love (and has an affair) with her best friends (darcy) fiance and begins to resent  darcy because she is jealous of the public relationship darcy has with her fiance.. while rachel's relationship with the darcy's fiance has to remain secret. ahh a book filled with drama but i still like it.
oh this post is so random and somewhat due to the beginning, makes me sound like some kind of pathetic dreamer. but im really not, im simple. kind of. in a complex way.. does that make sense?

kobo.. you smell

i dont want a kobo (or kindle). they dont actually smell.. but thats the problem. i like books. i like the content of books, i like the idea of books and i love the way books can captivate a reader and allow them to  encompass a world or scenario that may not even exist. im sure a kobo can do all of those things too but books smell and i like the smell. whether its the smell of age, the smell of the paper or just the smell of the bookshelves they sit on, its comforting.
i understand the concept of the kobo, its convenient. it must be. its a flat board with stories within it. i mean, for travelling purposes i approve of the creation. im not saying i will never own one, but i think for now i like turning pages.
i starting thinking about this because i am finally done school and im excited for the massive pile of books i now get to read. i couldn't imagine all the books fitting into this little kobo.
i wonder if this is what people who love records said when they came out with the ipod and internet downloading?
