talk less, say more

wow.. i haven't posted since last thursday! thats what my life is coming to. school is ridiculous! i have so many group projects due.. and i can't believe its almost october - october meaning midterms midterms and more midterms! well actually i love october - it is one of my favourite months.. thanksgiving! halloween! leaves on the ground and cooler weather! what is not to love? oh wait..
except that.. its not to love.
my friend even asked me a few days ago how i have friends (all i do is study, read, attend school and go to work).. lol the social life is hard to manage but i have a dog to keep me company now :) and sleep is over rated.
not that my life is supposed to be based around making this blog more interesting or anything.. but i wish i had something more interesting to say.. or maybe some pictures to post.. but i dont.
here is some good news though:
at the end of this year we are all guaranteed a 4 week placement (we have to interview and accept the jobs our self but we are guaranteed to get one).. some of these placements turn out to be jobs (only about 30%) and if you are willing to relocate to the toronto area the percentage is increased. well im totally willing to relocate to toronto (most people are not). im applying for my placement there and going to start the job search in toronto since im pretty sure the hamilton area has nothing and i want to live in toronto.

not so good news :
i think starbucks hates me. literally every time i go to a starbucks they are out of the pumpkin spice mix for a pumpkin spice latte.. i can't believe it! mohawk didn't have it and yesterday i went to ancaster starbucks with andrew and they told me they were out! im only willing to spend the $4.15 it costs for a tall once in a while and the more often they dont have them.. the less willing i am to even consider spending that much on a latte. they made me some tazo tea latte or something instead and it wasn't very good.

what! I phone 5! they are on the I phone 5? i know im random but i just heard that on the news..

have a good thursday!

awkward and awesome

awkward
- a girl at school asked me where the washroom was and i told her it was the first door to the left.. but i think she thought i meant the first door in the hallway and when i looked back i saw her walk into the mens bathroom.. then later i realized shes in my class.. :S oopss
- being so frustrated that you start crying in front of someone you dont know.. (okay this doesn't happen too often but it definitely did on monday when it seemed everything was just going wrong)
- when you met someone in class or something and you have known them for a week and are with them fairly often and you cant remember their name - but its beyond the point where you should be asking their name.. awkward!
- running for a bus.. it sucks when you see a bus pass you as you are walking to the bus stop.. but i refuse to run for a bus..

awesome
- im going to see a film at the toronto international film festival tomorrow (TIFF) and im so excited
- homemade peanut butter chocolate chip cookies (with non chunky peanut butter)
- i currently see leaves starting to fall to the ground.. meaning fall is coming!! i love fall (hello apex bionic and close toe shoes!)
- officially made dinner plans with some of my mac friends (some i haven't seen in over a year)
- when people visit you at work with a coffee (or umm pumpkin spice latte.. ;p) in their hands!
- look what i made :
yup.. thats guinness

winning comes with a cost

i hate when people complain about everything in life..but once in while a rant about something is healthy. well id say it is.. but maybe thats because i am about to complain about my day.
today was pretty close to the most frustrating day i have experienced in life. a while ago at work we had a teva contest (teva is a brand we sell at the store). basically all we had to do was sell tevas (easy - they have great shoes and sandals) and the person who sold the most tevas won the day trip. there was a winner from each store and i was the winner for limeridge mall. the day trip we won consisted of caving in the morning, a lunch and kayaking for a few hours in the afternoon and a free pair of shoes. sounds fun right?
so here is how my day fell down the drain into frustration:
i woke up at 6:15 because i had to drive to blue mountain (where the caving/kayaking is) - i planned on leaving at 7am (i had google map directions saying it will take 2.40 hours to get there -perfect). i get in my car (well my moms car - cause she let me have it for the day) and the tank is less than 1/4 full.. so i go put $20 gas in.. then i set my gps. the gps then says it going to take 4.5 hours to get there (i was supposed to be there at 10am) so shoot! at this point i have two different sets of directions both with different time and one says im going to be an hour and a half late! so i made the stupid decision (or smart- im not sure) and follow the gps. i get to barrie and im on some country road and i realize its 9:45 and it still says an 1.22 hours before i am at the destination.. and to make things worse!! my gsp suddenly re-routes me ( saying im 3 hours away) and my gas light comes on. i cancelled my route, entered closest gas station into the gps and it took me to a full service gas station (i hate those.. i can do it myself) and i asked for $40 in gas since i have no idea where i am. then i go into pay and ask the man if he knows how to get to heathcote and he has no idea what that is.. he asks someone else, who asks someone else and calls someone else and no one knows.. then im like okay where is blue mountain.. and he tells me to follow some highway 26.. so i follow it and its still saying 1.40 hours to get there.. its 10 after 10 at this point.. im calling my mom, my boss and the teva rep (on bluetooth of course) trying to tell everyone where i am.. okay so i'll skip all the little details but anyways i get there about 11:20 because the teva rep told me to wait at a gas station and he came and got me and i followed him to the place i was supposed to be.. so i completely missed caving which i was so excited for.. while we were waiting for everyone to meet us after they got cleaned up after caving the teva rep is like "ohh you didn't get your shoes! i'll get those" hes like 6.5 or 7?.. but umm i kind of asked for a 7.5 or 8 please? nope.. he doesn't have them.. apparently the right size wasn't ordered.. efff! after everyone is done caving and they meet us at the cars, we all drive to the place we are going kayaking. kayaking was fun! (this was the good part of the day) we went for a 2.5 hour kayak. it was gorgeous and some good exercise but obviously fitting with the day i was having thus far.. i got a sun burn because i forgot sunscreen. after kayaking i made sure i got proper directions and headed home (4 hours). when i get 45 minutes from home my gas light comes on again so i stoped in mississauga and put $25 more of gas in and head home.. at probably burlington a weird light start flashing in my car and it starts acting a bit funny but i was almost home so i kind of ignored it. so sure enough 15 minutes from my house and still on the highway, my car starts making a really loud noise and it starts to slow down so i pulled over to the shoulder of the high way, put my fourways on and call my house.. then..my friggen phone dies! it dies as soon as my dad answers (stupid blackberry went into that off mode) i didn't even get a chance to explain where i was. then its about 8 and im on the shoulder of a highway with no phone and my car wont start and im in tears and im dirty from hiking/kayaking. i got out of the car and walked to the closest gas station to use a phone. omg! i found 50 cent (yes thats how much pay phones cost now) and called my house and my mom is like 'dad is already out looking for you'.. i love my parents i dont know what i would do without them.. my dad picked me up at the esso.. we walked to the car and called caa and 30 minutes later a tow truck comes.
long day. im glad to be home. i missed three classes today and i really need to do some readings.. sometimes i hate mondays :(

as bad as the day has been it could have been worse. my parents are incredible. luckily this happened to my car within walking distance from my house. my parents have caa membership which helped out a lot. i got to meet some cool ladies from some of the other nxnw stores and go kayaking. teva planned a fun day for us :)

splish splash guinness is taking a bath

today the 13 lb ball of fluff i call guinness had a bath. hes cute, at first he was afraid.. then he loved it.. then he tried to jump out of the bath and later when he was done he tried to jump back in the tub.
the pup is clinging onto me at first

i dont know how often puppies are supposed to be bathed. i dont think you are supposed to bath them very often because their skin becomes dry and they get dandruff. this is the first bath ive given him.. his puppy shampoo smells nice. after his bath he sat out on the deck in the back with my dad since its actually pretty warm today (surprisingly its been warm these past three days)
so now guinness is all clean and smells nice for a barbecue i have to attend tonight. have to as in..id probably avoid it i could but i can't. its a bunch of my parents friends and im going to be the only one there below the age of 40 probably but the people hosting it really want to meet guinness.. so after guinness got all showered and cleaned its my turn..

have you ever tried to part your hair on the opposite side? okay well i did and i think i look funny. im pretty sure i have always parted my hair to my right side.. apparently today i was thinking hmmm i wonder how my hair would look if it was parted to my left side. maybe it just looks weird because im not used to it. id probably look the same to everyone else. maybe i will try braiding it to the left side too..
 hi. im awkward. awesome :)

i make a lot of weird faces.

alright im off to the barbecue.
i hope there is some wine :)
*somewhat dreading all the "what are you doing now that youve graduated" and "college? why human resources?" questions im going to get*

college life is already getting to me

i started my college program yesterday.. 1st day of classes and its definitely shocking how different it is than university. first of all: classes are much longer. at mac classes were 50 minutes and we had them 2 or 3 times a week (unless they were night classes which were 3 hours only once a week). at mohawk classes are  between an hour and a half and 2 hours. some classes are only once a week some are twice. at mac some classes were huge. i had one classes that im pretty sure had 500 people in it which yes i'll admit, was slightly excessive. but on average university had between 70-150 people per class. you got to class, listened to the prof lecture and then you left. most profs didn't know your name (unless you were in a specialized program which tended to be smaller, or in upper year where classes become smaller). also at mac you often didn't have the same schedule as everyone else in your program. at college i have the same schedule as the 48 people in my program and the profs pretty much already know my name. we were asked to get in groups and meet people already.. this is a good thing for me since a) if im not forced to meet people i stay to myself and b) its probably a good thing to meet a few people if im going to be spending so much time with all these peps over the course of this year.
so far what i like about college: we get an october break! most universities dont. oh and i like that i get to know the profs better and i start christmas break on the 16th!
what im a bit unsure about so far: i have 7 classes this semester (as opposed to the usual 5 im used to in university), all my exams are squished within a week (dec 12-16th) im definitely not used to that! at mac the exam period covered 3 weeks. oh and books are more expensive! i swear.. two text books i bought yesterday came to about $250! what!! this is redic.. i still have 5 more books to buy for this semester. and lastly.. i have to take accounting! im horrible at math! and organizational behaviour (i was warned about this course at mac) booooo! :(
off to class now :)

i still like ice cream on chilly days

now its just the four of us: mom dad guinness and i. becky left for guelph yesterday and diana for st catharines today. its going to be how it is until next summer. at least i have a puppy this year! alright so anyways my parents and i walked around niagara falls today with guinness after dropping diana off in st catharines.
welcome to the falls
above the falls
the water looks gorgeous
the boat going into the mist of the falls
guinness needed a walk break
and i think all the people kind of scared him
*ive noticed that im always wearing this sweater in pictures.. although it is one of my favourites i promise i do wear other sweaters**
bridge to the usa and falls on the usa side
i claimed that this is a sad attempt at copying the cn tower in toronto but my dad informed me that this short cn tower look-a-like thing was actually built before the cn tower
downtown core niagara falls - where the casino, clubs and all the hotels are
incline railway up to the "downtown" - yeah i know up to the downtown doesn't make sense
i had to post this.. we finally got guinness to look at the camera
i love long weekends and i love roadtrips to towns like this.. although it was pretty darn cold today it was still fun. i convinced my parents to get some ice cream and we walked around with our ice cream until we realized we should get back to the car before we get past the two hour mark and have to pay an extra $4.. stupid pay by the hour parking.. if you are even a minute past (like 2 hours and 1 minute) they make you pay for the 3rd hour. we drove home through niagara-on-the-lake (another town i love!) but we didn't stop.. maybe next time.
so that was my labour day.. now im just relaxing, waiting for my tea to be ready and maybe watch some criminal minds

oh but one last thing.. i have a slight dilemma.. greenland or brooklyn?.?.?
no not the place.. the jackets..
my first choice is the brooklyn (this) but currently they are showing its not available in a small in the black or grey. the only colour available in a small is a red colour which i definitely dont want..
my second choice (only if i cant get the brooklyn) is the greenland (this). the site is showing this is available in a black and a grey in a small.. but this is my second choice. its much shorter than the brooklyn..
do i wait to see if the brooklyn becomes available in more sizes and risk the greenland running out of my size as well or do i just order the greenland??

than labour day came and went

its labour day today! i can't believe its here already. this summer has went by way too fast. i have orientation at school tomorrow then classes start the next day. im just printing out my timetable now. i haven't gotten my books, haven't toured the campus, haven't gotten my usual back-to-school supplies. it seems unreal that its september and im back to school already in a new program at a new school. im excited cause i love school. i love the regularity and structure of having school in my life. i like readings and assignments. i like learning information that is practical for life. but at the same time im entirely nervous. new profs, new people, new school, new classes, new books, new course outlines, new program. im excited about having under 40 hours of work, more time to spend with my pup and all that stuff.  okay so thats just a little rant/update on my thoughts.
today im going to st catharines to help my sister move into her house there. we are taking guinness and i think we are going to go to port dalhousie after. i also need to look at some tiff schedules and decide what films we want to see. id like to enjoy my day off.. maybe i'll make some cupcakes or cakepops. i got the cakepops by bakerella recipe book from michaels awhile ago but i haven't had a chance to use it yet.
oh and just a picture of us ladies of the wedding party and the little ring bearer from saturday

set down your glass

today is the wedding. this is the plan.
we all have hair appointments between 10:45 and 11:30 at pure nv (i love it there they are amazing). then we are getting are makeup done.. some of the bridal party is going to clinique in the mall to get it done (its pretty cool- they basically do your makeup for free but you must buy two products from them. technically it could be expensive if you buy expensive products). since i dont like spending money on things i can do myself and my mom already bought me some waterproof mascara im coming home and my mom and/or sister is doing my makeup for me. one of the other bridesmaids is getting it done with me at my house. so then after our makeup is done around 1/1:30 we are heading over to t's grandmothers house and we are all getting ready! put our dresses shoes and jewelry on. i think the photographer might be there but im not sure.. we might not see him til the ceremony.
ive already got my nails done. we had a wedding rehearsal yesterday which went well. i didn't have time to get a tan but lets hope i dont look like a ghost in pictures (im not that pale). its supposed to rain today but as of now it looks gorgeous so im hoping it stays that way. a little breeze would help though (the rehearsal yesterday was disgustingly sticky)
i can't believe one of my closest friends is getting married! it seems ridiculous since i feel so young. but i guess we aren't that young. i guess she is just fortunate enough to meet such an amazing guy. i can't wait until i get married (just need to find the guy) im so happy for them! they are perfect for each other in every way visible to me (i didn't have to write a speech so this is my toast to them, one of the other bridesmaids is saying a speech and this bridesmaid is a) her sister and b) going into journalism and probably much better at writing a speech than i would be)

have a nice long weekend :)

just my luck

my friends wedding is on saturday and of course with my luck i get as sick as ive been in probably three years three days before the wedding. i dont get sick very often especially never sick enough that i have to leave work early. sometimes ill get a cough and such but never to the point where i feel like my head is going to explode. im pretty sure whatever this sickness is was brought on by a combinations of stress, lack of sleep, not eating well cause ive been so busy and probably being around someone who was sick (everyone at work is sick currently so its probably that). anyways it sucks.. it started tuesday, yesterday i felt like i was going to die. i left work early slept for a good 3 hours, took some advil cause my head was killing and then my sister woke me up to go to the mall because i desperately needed to find silver shoes for the wedding and i didn't have time today and dont have time tomorrow. i came home (i missed big brother; tear) and watched an episode of criminal minds then i went to bed around 10. i totally sleep for 11 hours. that is ridiculous (i normally sleep for 7 or 8).. well guinness did wake me up around 7 to go pee but he was a good boy and came back to bed with me. so yup 10pm to 9am. so today im feeling a bit better but my voice still sounds funny and i have a cough.. i took multi-vitamins (which im not sure they help as well as they should since i take kids multi-vitamins) and vitamin c and echinacea (supposed to be good when you are sick) and vitamin e. im still not feeling my best but im hoping i just dont get worse.. i have to pick up my dress and work today from 1-9:30 (im going to avoid all customers and prob try and do stock in the back room) tomorrow i have breakfast with friends, to go tanning (i never go to tanning salons!) and have a wedding rehearsal dinner.. then on saturday is the wedding!
have a good thursday

i cant believe its september 1st already!
