college life is already getting to me
i started my college program yesterday.. 1st day of classes and its definitely shocking how different it is than university. first of all: classes are much longer. at mac classes were 50 minutes and we had them 2 or 3 times a week (unless they were night classes which were 3 hours only once a week). at mohawk classes are between an hour and a half and 2 hours. some classes are only once a week some are twice. at mac some classes were huge. i had one classes that im pretty sure had 500 people in it which yes i'll admit, was slightly excessive. but on average university had between 70-150 people per class. you got to class, listened to the prof lecture and then you left. most profs didn't know your name (unless you were in a specialized program which tended to be smaller, or in upper year where classes become smaller). also at mac you often didn't have the same schedule as everyone else in your program. at college i have the same schedule as the 48 people in my program and the profs pretty much already know my name. we were asked to get in groups and meet people already.. this is a good thing for me since a) if im not forced to meet people i stay to myself and b) its probably a good thing to meet a few people if im going to be spending so much time with all these peps over the course of this year.
so far what i like about college: we get an october break! most universities dont. oh and i like that i get to know the profs better and i start christmas break on the 16th!
what im a bit unsure about so far: i have 7 classes this semester (as opposed to the usual 5 im used to in university), all my exams are squished within a week (dec 12-16th) im definitely not used to that! at mac the exam period covered 3 weeks. oh and books are more expensive! i swear.. two text books i bought yesterday came to about $250! what!! this is redic.. i still have 5 more books to buy for this semester. and lastly.. i have to take accounting! im horrible at math! and organizational behaviour (i was warned about this course at mac) booooo! :(
off to class now :)
