i started reading looking for alaska by john green a few days ago. its an easy read i got it from the teen novel section at indigo but i had heard it was good. it was on the top 20 books to read summer 2011 list from goodreads. i was just reading and i found a paragraph i actually love and it actually answers some of my life lol. one of the characters in the book, miles halter really likes this girl named alaska and when he visits her room once he notices the bookshelf full of novels. at one point he asks her "have you really read all those books in your room".. and her response..
the reason i love her answer so much is because its true.
there is so much in life to do that i cant just read and i absolutely loves that she includes something as seemingly insignificant as "swings to swing on" in her reasoning..
i collect books, i love books. reading takes me to places i cant go, teaches life lessons about different people and characters. books educate, create imagination and curiosity, inspire and bring about emotion.
i buy so many books and read them at 1/5 the rate i buy them. im almost 24, i have work and school to worry about. i have friends to be there for.
when im old (and boring as alaska puts it) i will have more time. if i have saved money from working hard throughout my young adulthood, and good health from taking care of myself, and a self-sufficient and appropriately independent family from raising them properly.. i will have all the time in the world to sit down with a good book! and as much as i dont want to be old now, sometimes i can't wait.
but currently im liking being almost 24.
i thought this was cute
